Keeping active both physically and mentally is vitally important for our residents wellbeing.

The shops, banks, post office and other amenities are close by and available for those who are able to go out. The library service can supply you with books which are changed monthly. They are happy to obtain books on request. These books are on a selection of subjects, some are pictorial and many are large print. They can also supply books on tape if required. Our Activities Organiser works with the residents on a newspaper and quiz group each morning over a cup of tea. Residents are also encouraged to pursue their own interests and hobbies if able within the local community (Day Centre, Probus Club).

At Hilton Lodge we have a regular programme of events throughout the month including Music for Health, Beautician, Hand Massage, Arts and Crafts, Extend Exercises for the elderly. We have enjoyed many varied entertainments from Ballets to Gilbert and Sullivan, given by various groups from the local primary school and nurseries to the local pipe band. We have recently introduced our new cockapoo puppy Denton to the residents. Having access to our own wheelchair accessible mini-bus at Hilton Lodge is invaluable. We can extend our day to day in house activities to enjoy the local community and beautiful East Lothian countryside as well as day trips and outings further afield such as Blair Drummond Safari Park, Holy Island, Silversands in Fife and the residents and matrons favourite the Ratho Barge Trip.

Hilton Lodge has close links with our local ministers of faith. We hold a monthly church service for those residents unable to visit their local church and ministers visit those residents who are bed bound or becoming very frail. We hold a large annual gathering where residents, their families, members of staff and friends of Hilton Lodge gather on our beautiful south facing front lawn. Residents have access to the beautiful south facing garden and a lovely sensory garden and summer house at the side of the house during the nice weather. We also have a large enclosed safe patio area leading off from the sitting room for residents to enjoy the better days and partake of outdoor games and flower planting. At Christmas those residents who are not able to be with their families have a superb Christmas lunch. During the weeks prior to Christmas we have visits from Youth Organisations, Carol Singers, Pipers as well as going to the Pantomime and having visits to the Christmas Lights followed by a fish supper. Our relatives are invited to join in these events and have a cup of tea and a mince pie or two! Special days such as St Andrew’s Day and Burns Day are celebrated in style. Residents of Hilton Retirement Homes are invited to join us on these special occasions also.

Our activities co-ordinator plans our outings with the residents at the residents committee meetings where new ideas and suggestions are always welcome and acted upon.
